Flat Endless Slings
A flat endless sling is a band of flat woven webbing closed into a continuous loop — no ends, no eyes and no metal fittings anywhere on the article. There is nothing to thread and nothing to line up: the loop goes over the hook and the whole circumference becomes a soft, load-bearing face. We build flat endless slings from 1 t to 30 t in polyester, nylon or polypropylene, single lay or duplex, with a 7:1 safety factor to EN 1492-1, woven, closed, labelled and proof tested in our own mill in Taizhou, Jiangsu.
Flat endless slings are bought by the loop rather than by the ends, and that is what makes them the fastest article to rig and the longest-serving on a rack. With no fixed ends, the bearing point, the hook contact and the closure all move when you turn the loop, so worn in one place is not worn out. This page sets out the builds we supply and the parameters to order against; the deep page behind each build carries the detail.

Why the Closed Loop Is Chosen
- Nothing to hook and nothing to lose — no eye, shackle or thimble sits on the article; the loop passes over the hook and the rigging is finished.
- Turn it and the wear moves — the bearing point, the hook contact point and the closure can all be rotated around the loop, which is the single habit that decides whether a sling lasts one season or three.
- One loop, every hitch — vertical, choked and basket arrangements all come from the same article, so one size on the rack covers the job.
- A broad, flat bearing — the band lies flat and spreads the load across its full width, which is what leaves plate, sections and crates unmarked.
- Everything that carries the load is visible — unlike an endless round sling, a flat loop shows you its entire load path on the outside.
The Flat Endless Range — Which Build Do You Need?
“Flat endless slings” names one shape and several builds. All of them are the same flat band closed into a loop; what changes is the number of layers, the width and whether the band is protected.
| Build | What it is | Choose it when | Read more |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single ply endless flat sling, 1–12 t | One layer of woven webbing forms the whole loop. | General lifting; light, flexible and economical; tight rigging and small diameters. | Single ply endless flat sling |
| Duplex (double ply) endless flat sling | Two layers of webbing stitched together into one loop. | More capacity at the same width, or a stiffer band that sits flatter over an edge. | Endless web sling |
| Wide body endless flat sling | A band much wider than the capacity ladder requires. | Soft, coated or finished loads where the bearing pressure must be spread. | Flat lifting sling |
| Sleeved or padded endless flat sling | The loop supplied with a protective sleeve at the bearing points. | Sharp, machined or abrasive edges. A sleeve cannot be retro-fitted to a band already woven. | Endless web sling |
| Endless flat belt lifting sling | A heavier, narrow-gauge belt closed into a loop. | Heavy ferrous work where a stiff belt is wanted rather than a soft band. | Endless flat belt lifting slings |
| One-way endless flat sling | The same loop, built for a single trip. | Export packing and one-trip loads that never come back. | Single use endless webbing sling |

Technical Parameters — Flat Endless Slings
The table below is our standard flat endless ladder to EN 1492-1, quoted in straight lift. Reference widths and weights are the published series for this range; the final width, the ply and the finished weight are stated on the order acknowledgement.
| WLL, straight lift | Webbing colour | Reference band width | Ply available | Working length range | Approx. weight | Choked (× 0.8) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 t | Violet | Confirm on order | Single | 0.5 m – 100 m | 0.22 kg/m | 0.8 t |
| 2 t | Green | 50 mm | Single, duplex | 1 m – 100 m | 0.35 kg/m | 1.6 t |
| 3 t | Yellow | 75 mm | Single, duplex | 1 m – 100 m | 0.52 kg/m | 2.4 t |
| 4 t | Grey | 100 mm | Single, duplex | 1.5 m – 100 m | 0.80 kg/m | 3.2 t |
| 5 t | Red | 125 mm | Single, duplex | 1.5 m – 100 m | 0.85 kg/m | 4.0 t |
| 6 t | Brown | 150 mm | Single, duplex | 1.5 m – 100 m | 0.96 kg/m | 4.8 t |
| 8 t | Blue | 200 mm | Single, duplex | 2 m – 100 m | 1.34 kg/m | 6.4 t |
| 10 t | Orange | 250 mm | Single, duplex | 2 m – 100 m | 1.64 kg/m | 8.0 t |
| Above 10 t | No colour code | Confirm on order | Duplex | To order | On request | Label governs |
Read the label, not the colour: the colour gives the capacity band, while the sewn label carries the straight-lift working load limit, the material, the standard, the length and the traceability code, and it is the label that governs above 10 t.

Length and Hitches — the Two Things to Get Right
A closed loop has no ends, so there is nothing to measure end to end, and this trade quotes the same flat endless sling under two conventions that differ by about a factor of two. Circumference is the perimeter of the loop — the length of band in the finished article. Effective working length is the usable height you actually get, which works out at roughly half the circumference because the loop is doubled when it hangs. State which figure yours is, or state the use instead — the girth of the article the loop has to go round — and the ambiguity disappears before the band is cut.
| Quoted convention | What it measures | The same sling equals |
|---|---|---|
| Circumference | The perimeter of the loop — the total length of band in the article | 2 m |
| Effective working length | The usable height; the loop is doubled when it hangs | 1 m |
The label figure is the straight-lift rating, and every other arrangement is derived from it. A choke reduces it to 0.8, so a 4 t load in a choke needs a 5 t sling. A basket raises it to 2.0 with the legs near vertical, falling to 1.4 between 7° and 45° and to 1.0 between 45° and 60°. The full mode factor table by hitch sets out every arrangement, including the angled choke.
Flat Endless or Round Endless?
Both are closed loops and both are textiles, so the section decides. A flat endless sling lies flat and spreads its bearing across the full band width, which is why it leaves plate, sections, crates and box girders unmarked — and because the load path is the band itself, everything that carries the load is on the outside where you can see it. An endless round sling conforms to pipe, coils, rolls and curved castings and reaches far higher capacities, but its core is hidden inside the sleeve. Match the section to the load and the rest follows.
- Flat, wide and boxy loads — plate, sections, crates, stillages, machinery and precast units: the flat band wins on bearing area.
- Round, curved and awkward loads — pipe, coils, rolls and castings: see the steel pipe lifting strap for pipe duty, or step across to the round family.
- Where the load path must be inspectable — a flat endless sling shows its whole load path; a round sling does not.
- Where the capacity runs past the webbing ladder — the sleeved round form takes over where a flat band becomes unmanageable.
Applications of Flat Endless Slings
- Steel, stainless and aluminium sheet, plate and bundles that must not be marked
- Pipe, tube and poles, choked so that the wrap grips as the load comes on
- Timber packs, crates, stillages and boxed goods
- Painted, powder-coated and finished fabrications, where a broad bearing matters more than a narrow one
- Precast concrete and stone, lifted on a soft, wide face
- General yard, depot, port and site work, where one loop has to serve many different rigs

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a flat endless sling?
It is a flat woven webbing band closed into a continuous loop, with no ends, no eyes and no metal fittings. It is the endless type A flat woven webbing sling of EN 1492-1, and in North America the type 5 web sling. We build it from 1 t to 30 t in polyester, nylon or polypropylene, in single ply or duplex, at the width and length your load and your rig require.
Is a flat endless sling seamless?
No. It is endless in use, not seamless: the loop is closed by laying the two ends of the band over one another and stitching the lap. That joint is a full-strength lap and it sits in the load path, so it is the first thing to inspect. If you need a closed loop with no joint at all in the load-bearing element, that is the round sling, where only the outer sleeve is a tube and the core is continuous.
What is the safety factor, and can I choose it?
7:1 to EN 1492-1 is our standard. The same working load limit can be built at 5:1 or 6:1, or to AS 1353 at 8:1 — and a higher factor needs a wider band for the same capacity. Tell us the standard your site works to and we will supply to it.
How do I specify the length?
By circumference or by effective working length, and the two differ by about a factor of two. Name the convention, or simply tell us the girth of the article the loop must go round, and we will confirm the figure on the order acknowledgement.
Can a flat endless sling be used in a choke?
Yes — vertical, choked and basket arrangements all come from the same loop. Allow for the choke when you size it: it keeps 0.8 of the straight-lift figure, so a 4 t load needs a 5 t sling.
Safety notice: lifting operations are inherently dangerous. Follow the instructions of the equipment manufacturer, the practice of your national governing body and the training you have received, and never exceed the working load limit for the configuration you are using — a straight lift, a choke and a basket are three different ratings on the same sling. If you are unsure whether a sling is fit for use, ask us before you lift, and if in doubt take it out of service.
