Endless Flat Belt Lifting Slings
An endless flat belt lifting sling is a flat woven belt closed into a continuous loop — no ends, no eyes and no metal fittings on the article. The belt form is chosen for one reason above all others: width. A wide belt spreads the load across a large, soft bearing area, so the same figure arrives on the load at a much lower pressure. That is what makes the flat belt the answer on large, soft, coated and finished work.
We build endless flat belt lifting slings from 25 mm to 300 mm wide as standard and wider to order, in single ply or duplex, in polyester, polypropylene or nylon, in loops from 0.5 m to 100 m, with a 7:1 safety factor to EN 1492-1. Width, ply and fibre are the three decisions on this page — and width comes first.

Width Is the Specification
The same working load limit can be built into a belt two ways: a narrow belt at a higher ply, or a wide belt at a lower ply. Both will carry the figure. They behave completely differently on the load.
- Bearing pressure falls as the belt widens. The load is spread across the belt’s full width, so a wider belt means less pressure on the surface underneath — which is the whole reason a wide belt can pick up a finished or coated article without marking it.
- A wide belt resists tipping. On a flat or boxy load a narrow band can roll over or concentrate at one edge; a wide belt lies down and stays down.
- A wide belt wraps without creasing. On a large-diameter pipe, coil or cylinder the belt follows the curvature across its full width instead of pinching along a single line.
- A wide belt is heavier in the hand. The trade-off is real: at the widest end the belt is a two-person article, and it takes more of the hook bowl.
So the rule runs in both directions: order the narrowest belt that carries the figure without marking the load, or the widest the load’s geometry and the hook will accept. Width does not change what the sling will lift. It changes what the sling does to the thing it lifts.

Belt, Band, Strap or Sling?
Buyers reach this article through four words that do not mean the same thing, and one of them is not a lifting article at all.
| The word | What it actually names | What it leaves open |
|---|---|---|
| Belt | The band itself — a wide flat woven material, named for its width against its thickness. | Whether it is rated for lifting at all. |
| Band | The same material, usually at the wider end of the range. | The same. |
| Strap | The same material, usually at the narrower end. | The same. |
| Sling | The rated assembly: woven, closed, marked and tested to a lifting standard. | The width, the ply and the fibre. |
The distinction matters, because it is the difference between a safe lift and an incident: a belt is a material, a sling is a specification. A lifting sling is a belt that has been woven to a lifting standard, closed, marked with its working load limit and proof tested. A belt that has not been through that process must not be used to lift. If a quotation reaches you for “flat belt” with no standard reference on it, ask which one it is before the goods ship.
Technical Parameters — Endless Flat Belt Lifting Slings
The series below is our standard belt range in a 4 mm weave, single ply, to EN 1492-1 at 7:1, quoted in straight lift. The reference series is printed by belt width so it can be read in the order the belt is actually specified.
| Belt width | WLL, single ply at 7:1 | Approx. weight | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 mm | 1 t | 0.20 kg/m | The narrowest belt in the series. |
| 60 mm | 2 t | 0.60 kg/m | |
| 90 mm | 3 t | 0.78 kg/m | |
| 120 mm | 4 t | 0.90 kg/m | |
| 150 mm | 5 t | 1.14 kg/m | |
| 180 mm | 6 t | 1.33 kg/m | |
| 240 mm | 8 t | 1.85 kg/m | |
| 300 mm | 10 t | 2.05 kg/m | The widest belt in the standard series. |
| Above 300 mm | To order | On request | Extra-wide belts for large, soft and coated loads; quoted against the load. |
Two levers move the figure at a given width. A 5:1 build is narrower for the same figure — the same 300 mm belt carries 12 t at 5:1 rather than 10 t at 7:1. A duplex (two-layer) build carries more than a single ply at the same width, and sits stiffer over an edge. Both are built to order; the figure on the order acknowledgement governs.
