Product Detail

Lift sling rigging company produce WLL 120T Polyester Round Slings AS 4497,120000kg Heavy Duty Round Lifting Sling,120 טאָן ליפטינג וואַרפלקע.

WLL 120T Polyester Round Slings AS 4497

A WLL 120T polyester round sling to AS 4497 is an endless, sleeved lifting sling rated at 120,000 kg in a vertical lift. The load is carried by a continuous bundle of high-tenacity polyester yarn; a woven sleeve covers the core, protects the load and carries the marking the rigger reads. There is no metal anywhere on the sling and no flat face to concentrate pressure, so it wraps a 120-tonne fabrication, a vessel section or a mill roll without marking what it touches.

These slings are built to AS 4497:2018, the Australian standard for synthetic-fibre round slings: a minimum breaking load of seven times the working load limit, and every sling proof loaded to twice its WLL before it leaves the works. At 120 t that means an MBL of 840,000 kg and a proof load of 240,000 kg on each individual sling, recorded against its serial number.

What the 120 Tonne Rating Covers

The figure printed on the sleeve is the vertical rating. Every other arrangement is derived from it by a mode factor, and the sling is chosen for the arrangement it will actually work in, not for the tonnage alone.

Arrangement Mode factor Working load limit
Vertical 1.0 120 t (120,000 kg)
Choked 0.8 96 t (96,000 kg)
Basket, 0–7° 2.0 240 t (240,000 kg)
Basket, 7–45° 1.4 168 t (168,000 kg)
Basket, 45–60° 1.0 120 t (120,000 kg)

Mode factors applied to the single-leg rating. For a multi-leg sling the assembly factor also applies — 1.4 up to 45° and 1.0 from 45° to 60° for a two-leg lift. Confirm the arrangement before the lift.

Figures are the standard specification for this capacity. Length, sleeve construction and marking are confirmed on the approval drawing before production.

Construction and Marking

Three parts decide how the sling behaves, and only one of them is visible.

  • The core is the load path: continuous parallel polyester yarn wound to the rated capacity and closed into an endless loop. Permitted yarn terminations are made at the start and finish of the wind and carry no load.
  • The sleeve is the wear part. It takes the abrasion, keeps the core out of daylight and dirt, and holds the label. A sleeve worn through so the core is visible retires the sling, even where the core still looks sound.
  • The label is the authority. Above 10 t the sleeve colour no longer identifies the capacity, so the WLL, the length and the serial number are read from the sewn label — which is why it has to stay legible for the life of the sling.

A 120 t sling is light enough for a forklift to move and flexible enough to coil — the handling advantage over chain or wire rope at the same capacity.

Where a 120 Tonne Round Sling Is Used

  • Steel fabrications, girders and frames where the painted or galvanised surface has to come out of the lift unmarked
  • Precast and precast-segment handling, where the sling has to wrap a concrete edge without spalling it
  • Pressure vessels, reactors and mill shells with trunnions or lifting lugs that a soft loop can pass through
  • Heavy machinery, die sets and castings lifted in a basket where a chain would bruise a machined face
  • Port, shipyard and offshore work where a 120 t lift has to be rigged quickly by hand

Testing, Quality Control and Documentation

Every sling is proof loaded to 240,000 kg and inspected for core condition, sleeve integrity, length and marking before packing. The works runs its own horizontal test bed, so the proof load and the length are measured in-house rather than sampled. On request we supply the fibre certificate, the proof-load record for the serial number and a production sample for you to handle and test before volume begins. If your project requires a declared standard marking, a test certificate with the consignment or third-party witnessing, tell us before the order and we will confirm what can be provided for this capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does WLL 120T mean on a round sling?

A working load limit of 120 tonnes — 120,000 kg — in a vertical lift. It is not the breaking strength: the sling is built to an MBL of 840,000 kg so the 7:1 factor required by AS 4497 for a polyester core is met.

What safety factor does AS 4497 require?

For polyester round slings, AS 4497:2018 sets a minimum breaking load of seven times the working load limit and requires each sling to be proof loaded to twice its WLL. Both figures are stated on the test record for the serial number.

How much can it lift in a basket or a choke?

A choke reduces the rating to 96 t. A basket increases it to 240 t at 0–7°, 168 t at 7–45° and 120 t at 45–60°. In a basket the body runs under the load, so the girth and the angle both matter — give us both and we will confirm the figure.

How is the length of an endless round sling measured?

Two conventions are in use: the lay-flat length (half the circumference) and the full circumference of the loop. They differ by a factor of two, so state which one your site works in. Tell us the distance you need between the hook and the load, and we will build to it.

Can the length, sleeve and label be customised?

Yes. Length, sleeve construction, core fibre, label layout, language and marking are all made to order, and intermediate capacities above and below 120 t are available. Send the load, the arrangement and the marking your receiving site needs.
