WLL 400T Polyester Round Slings
A WLL 400T polyester round sling is rated 400,000 kg on a single vertical leg: a continuous loop of high-tenacity polyester yarn inside a heavy duty woven sleeve, a minimum breaking load of 2,800,000 kg at 7:1, and a proof load of 800,000 kg applied before dispatch.
At this size the question stops being only “which sling” and becomes “which rigging concept”. Four hundred tonnes is where a single endless body, a pair of smaller slings in basket, a spreader beam with short legs, and a wire rope grommet all become credible answers — and the one that fits is decided by the headroom, the hook and the handling, more often than by capacity.

An 800 t basket rating is the point where the sling usually outruns everything above it. There are not many 800 t hooks, and a beam rated for the same figure is a project in itself — which is why a 400 t sling is normally specified as part of a chain of rated items rather than on its own.
One 400 t Sling, or a Different Rigging Concept?
This is the decision that actually gets made at 400 t. All four routes below will lift the load; they differ in what you have to handle, inspect and plan.

In practice, a 400 t lift is more often solved by the second or third route than by the first: two 250 tonne round slings in a two-point basket carry 400 t at about 80% of their vertical rating, and a spreader beam removes the horizontal component that a wide leg angle puts into the sling. If the decision comes down to the last route, the endless wire rope grommet is the equivalent in steel.
What Changes Physically at 400 Tonnes
The sling becomes plant. A working-length 400 t body arrives as a coil that is lifted with a crane or forklift, stored on a pallet, and moved twice to be used once. Budget for that in the lift plan, not just for the hook time.
Headroom is not free. Polyester extends roughly 2–3% at WLL — 400–600 mm on a 20 m body. On a long leg that extension also lets the leg angle open as the load comes on, which changes the share each leg carries.
The chain matters more than the link. A 400 t sling under a 300 t hook is a 300 t lift. Check the marking on every item in the set, and check that the beam or master link covers the total rather than the per-leg figure.

Options and OEM
Polyester is the standard core. An aramid core extends the working temperature and a UHMWPE (Dyneema) core cuts the weight of the sling itself, which matters more at 400 t than at any size below it. Sleeve colour, wear pads, length convention, label layout and packing are specified per order, and the same build repeats against the approval drawing.
If the lift plan is still open, the 300 tonne set is the size to check first: a matched four-leg set of 300 t slings rates 630 t, and it is often the cheaper way to cover a 400 t lift than a single body at the top of the range. Above 400 t, the range continues at 500 tonne round slings.
