Lace-Up Hoisting Grips
A lace-up hoisting grip is a split wire mesh grip: instead of sliding over the cable end, it wraps around the cable and is laced closed along its length. That makes it the only option where the cable end is already terminated, in a gland or on a drum – the grip is fitted to the run itself. Load is shared along the laced seam, so the grip holds a smooth jacket without clamps or bolts. Standard sizes cover cable from 9 mm ila 160 mm in galvanised, 304/316 stainless and PVC-coated mesh, with single eye, double eye and offset eye heads.

How a Lace-Up Grip Differs from a Closed-Head Grip
A standard cable sock is closed at the head and open at the tail: you slide it over a free cable end. A lace-up grip is split along its whole length and laced shut, so it can be installed on a cable that is already fixed at both ends:
- No free end required. Fit it to a cable already terminated in a gland, a panel or a joint – no disconnection, no re-termination.
- Fitted where you need it. The grip can be positioned anywhere along the run, not only at an end, which suits mid-span support and riser clamps.
- Load spread along the seam. The lacing closes the mesh evenly over the full mesh length, so grip pressure is distributed instead of concentrated at one end.
- Removable and reusable. Unlace, inspect and refit – useful for temporary supports during installation and for maintenance access.
- Works on large or rigid runs. Big cable, bundled cable, pipe and ducting that cannot be fed through a closed sock can still be gripped.

Lace-Up or Closed-Head – Which Do You Need?
If the cable end is free, a closed-head sock is faster to fit and carries more for the same mesh. Use lace-up where access is the constraint. Bizim cable pulling socks grip page covers the closed-head range, ve offset eye cable pulling grips cover support runs where the line must clear the cable.
| Tip | Fitting | Typical duty |
|---|---|---|
| Closed-head sock | Slides over a free cable end | Duct and trench pulling, one pull line |
| Double eye sock | Slides over a free end, two eyes | Balanced two-line pulls, bridle rigs, pass-through |
| Lace-up, single eye | Wraps and laces around the cable | Mid-span support, riser clamps, retrofit on terminated cable |
| Lace-up, double eye | Wraps and laces, two eyes | Hanging or tensioning a run from two points |

Model Selection Chart
Choose the model by the measured cable outside diameter, then set the mesh length from the load it has to carry. Capacities below are the standard pull ratings for this mesh body; for permanent support duty the working load is lower and is confirmed on the quotation.

A laced seam is not as strong as a closed head: the lacing, not the mesh, sets the limit. Tell us the duty – a hanging support, a mid-span clamp or a short horizontal pull – and we confirm the mesh length, wire diameter and lacing pitch to suit. Order one size above the measured diameter when the cable is within 1 mm of a range limit.
How to Fit a Lace-Up Grip
- Mark the position on the cable and clean the jacket – dust, oil or water on the surface reduces grip.
- Wrap the mesh around the cable with the eye at the load end and the split seam straight along the run, not spiralled.
- Lace from the eye end down. Work the cord through the edge loops in a continuous zig-zag, keeping even tension so the mesh closes without gaps.
- Tension evenly – the mesh should sit in contact with the jacket along the whole length, with no slack section at the tail.
- Finish and secure the cord end so it cannot run back through the loops, then load the grip once and re-check the lacing before the working load is applied.
Materials and Options
- Galvanised steel mesh – standard for indoor and general outdoor support duty.
- AISI 304 / 316 stainless steel – marine, coastal, tunnel and chemical environments; 316 where chlorides are present.
- PVC or rubber coated mesh – where the jacket, paint or plating must not be marked.
- Lacing cord – stainless lacing wire for permanent outdoor duty, galvanised wire for general work, polyester cord where metal contact is not allowed.
- Heads – single eye as standard; double eye for two-point hanging, offset eye where the line must clear the cable.
Typical Applications
- Supporting cable already terminated in glands, panels or joints – retrofit without disconnection
- Riser, shaft and vertical run support where the cable must hang plumb
- Mid-span support on tray, ladder and catenary runs
- Marine and offshore cable support, including stainless mesh and lacing
- Temporary supports and lifting points during installation and maintenance
- Gripping large cable, bundled cable, pipe, hose and ducting that cannot be fed into a closed sock

Installation and Safe Use
- Inspect mesh, eye, ferrule and lacing cord before every fit; discard any grip with broken wires, a deformed eye or a frayed cord.
- Never fit a lace-up grip over a damaged or swollen jacket – the mesh cannot close evenly and the load concentrates on a few wires.
- Keep the pull or support axial. Side loading on a laced seam opens the lacing and is the most common cause of failure.
- Do not exceed the rated load for the fitted configuration; a laced grip carries less than the same mesh with a closed head.
- Re-check lacing tension after the first load cycle, and at each inspection interval for permanent supports.
- Store dry and clean; rinse and re-inspect galvanised grips after wet or salty service.
Kalite Kontrol
Kaldırma Sling Arma A.Ş., Ltd has manufactured wire rope and mesh rigging in Taizhou, Jiangsu'dan beri 1985. Mesh is braided from wire we select, eyes are braided or swaged to a controlled length, and samples are proof-loaded before despatch in our own laboratory. Pre-shipment inspection reports and third-party testing can be arranged on request.
Sıkça Sorulan Sorular
What is a lace-up hoisting grip used for?
It wraps around a cable and is laced closed, so it can support or pull a cable that already has terminated ends. It is used for mid-span support, riser clamps and retrofit work where a closed-head sock cannot be slid on.
Can it be fitted to a cable that is already installed?
Evet – that is the point of the split mesh. Wrap it at the position you need, lace it closed and load it. No disconnection, no re-termination, and it can be unlaced and refitted later.
How strong is a laced grip compared with a closed sock?
The mesh body may be the same, but the laced seam is the limiting feature, so the working load is lower than the same mesh with a closed head. Give us the duty and the cable diameter and we confirm the length, wire diameter and lacing that suit it.
Which lacing cord should I choose?
Stainless lacing wire for permanent outdoor, marine or corrosive duty; galvanised wire for general work; polyester cord where metal contact with the jacket is not allowed. We supply the cord with the grip.
Güvenlik faktörü nedir?
Standard grips are rated at 5:1 on the breaking strength of the mesh body. The fitted configuration – lacing pitch, seam condition, cable surface – sets the working load, and despatch dates are confirmed on the quotation.
