Nylon Braided Cover Wire Rope Ladder

A nylon braided cover wire rope ladder is a steel-cored ladder with a textile skin: one continuous wire rope is threaded through every rung, each rung is an epoxy resin tube rated at 650 kg, and the rope that runs between the rungs is covered in seamless braided nylon with no joint along its length. The result behaves like two ladders at once – it carries like wire rope and handles like nylon, and it is made from 3 m till 30 m long and 300 mm till 500 mm wide.

A steel core inside, a braided nylon skin outside: the rung is an epoxy tube the core passes through, so there is no joint at any rung to work loose.

Specifications

Four things are fixed on the order – the core, the rung, the cover and the length – because they decide what the ladder carries and how it feels in the hand once it is hanging.

Why Wire Inside and Nylon Outside

A plain wire rope ladder is strong and unpleasant: it cuts a hand, it is cold, it rusts where the galvanising wears, and it marks whatever it touches. A plain nylon ladder is pleasant and elastic: it stretches under a climber, it sags between rungs, and a knife or a sharp edge ends it. This ladder is built to take the useful half of each.

What each layer contributes
Layer What it does What it solves
Galvanised wire rope core Carries the load along one continuous member; low stretch under a climber; resists cutting and abrasion at a sill The sag and stretch of an all-textile ladder, and the vulnerability of rope to a sharp edge
Epoxy resin rung Holds the two stringers apart at a fixed pitch and takes the climber’s foot; 650 kg per tube A rung that swells, splits or loosens – the tube is not drilled and pinned, the core simply passes through it
Seamless braided nylon cover A continuous textile surface over the core: a firm grip, no bare wire in the hand, no rust marking, no joint to fray The hand and the finish – the reason the ladder can be handled, stored and sold as a product rather than as hardware

Choose the Model by Storeys

A nylon braided cover wire rope ladder is ordered by the metre – the core is cut to length and the rungs follow from the pitch – so the model number follows the length. The table is the range we make most often, with the length already allowing for the sill height and the tail that hangs below the last rung.

Standard models – längd, rungs and width
Model Storeys Ladder length Rungs at 300 mm pitch Standard width Packed weight*
WRL-6 2 6 m 20 300 mm ca. 7.0 kg
WRL-9 3 9 m 30 350 mm ca. 10.0 kg
WRL-12 4 12 m 40 350 mm ca. 13.0 kg
WRL-15 5 15 m 50 400 mm ca. 16.0 kg
WRL-18 6 18 m 60 400 mm ca. 19.0 kg

*Packed weight is an estimate for the standard build and moves with the wire rope diameter, the epoxy tube and the length; it is confirmed on the quotation. Lengths above 18 m are made to order, and the model number follows the length, so a 24 m ladder is WRL-24.

How the 650 kg Is Used

650 kg is the capacity of one epoxy resin tube, which is the figure that matters when a climber’s weight lands on a single rung with the ladder swinging. It is not a figure for the whole ladder, and it should not be added up across the rungs: the assembly is rated as one article, and the figure that applies to the ladder you receive is the one marked on its label.

Two things follow from that for a buyer. First, say what the ladder is for – escape, access, inspection, temporary works – because the duty decides the width, the pitch and the top end, and the rating is agreed with it. Second, do not take a per-rung figure from one page and a whole-ladder figure from another: compare like with like, and ask for the rating in the form your market prints it.

The Build, Step by Step

  • One core, threaded through. A single galvanised wire rope is run through every epoxy tube in turn, so the stringer is continuous from the top end to the bottom – there is no swage, no thimble and no knot between rungs.
  • Rungs set on the pitch. Each tube is positioned at the ordered pitch and fixed to the core, which is what keeps the ladder from racking when it is climbed.
  • Braided over, not sleeved on. The nylon is braided directly over the wire rope, without a joint along its length; a sleeve pushed over the rope would move, hold water and wear through at the ends first.
  • Ends finished last. Hooks, thimbles or loops are fitted after the braid, so the cover is continuous right up to the fitting and there is no bare wire at the point where the ladder is handled most.

Even pitch along the whole length: the rungs are positioned on the core, not tied to it, so the ladder does not rack under a foot.

Where This Ladder Is the Right Answer

The steel core earns its cost where a textile ladder would be cut, stretched or left hanging for years: a fixed escape route on a facade, a plant room accessed monthly, a tank or silo shell, a quay or a scaffold that is climbed in wet gloves. The braided cover earns its cost where the ladder is handled by people rather than by riggers: it does not cut, it does not mark a wall, and it does not leave rust on a hand.

Where the duty is escape from a building rather than access to equipment, the lighter all-nylon fire escape climbing rope ladder is usually the better buy – it costs less and it rolls smaller. Where the duty is lifting rather than climbing, this is the wrong article altogether: a load path needs a rated sling, och den vajerslinga range covers that case.

Inspection and Retirement

A nylon braided cover wire rope ladder fails in three places, and all three are visible without tools.

  • The braid over the top bend. The cover wears first where the ladder passes over a sill or a rail; a braid worn through to bright wire is a retirement, not a repair.
  • The epoxy tube ends. A crack or a white bloom at the end of a tube means water has been inside it; the rung is replaced rather than used.
  • The core between rungs. A kink, a birdcage or a broken wire under the braid is a broken load path – the ladder comes out of service.

Check the braid at the rung ends and over the top bend: that is where a steel-cored ladder shows its age first.

Store it coiled and hung rather than lying in water, and it will outlast a textile ladder by years; store it wet in a sealed bag and the core will corrode from the inside, where the braid hides it.

Vanliga frågor

What does nylon braided cover mean on a wire rope ladder?

It means the nylon is braided directly over the steel wire rope as a continuous cover, with no joint along the length and no sleeve pushed on afterwards. The core still carries the load; the braid gives the grip, the finish and the protection.

How much does one rung of a wire rope ladder carry?

Each epoxy resin tube is rated at 650 kg. That is a per-rung figure – the capacity of one tube under a climber’s foot – not the rating of the whole ladder, which is marked on the assembly and agreed with the duty on the order.

What is the advantage over an all-nylon rope ladder?

A steel core does not stretch under a climber and does not part on a sharp edge, so the ladder stays at the length it was cut and keeps its rung pitch when loaded. The braided cover gives back the handling an all-nylon ladder has: no bare wire in the hand and no rust marking.

How long should a wire rope ladder be?

One storey is taken as 3.0 m, with half a metre added as a tail so the last rung hangs below the sill. A four-storey run is therefore a 12 m ladder, which is the WRL-12 model.

Can the braided cover be made in our colour?

Ja. The braided cover is made in the colour of the order, and the same colour can be carried onto the label and the bag. Send the reference and it is matched before the braid is run.

Is a wire rope ladder suitable for a permanent escape route?

It is the version to consider where a textile ladder would be cut or stretched – a fixed route on a facade, a plant room, a tank shell. Where the project requires the article to be certified to a national standard, say so on the enquiry and the specification, the marking and the paperwork are agreed before the ladder is made.

How is a wire rope ladder packed and shipped?

A nylon braided cover wire rope ladder is coiled and packed in a roll-up bag, a PVC bag with header, or a carton, with the length and model marked on the outside. HS-kod 630790; the packed weight for each model is confirmed on the quotation.
