WLL 600T Polyester Round Slings
A WLL 600T polyester round sling is rated 600,000 kg on a single vertical leg: a continuous loop of high-tenacity polyester yarn inside a heavy duty woven sleeve, a minimum breaking load of 4,200,000 kg pri 7:1, and a 1,200,000 kg proof load applied to every body before it is marked.
At this capacity the sling is usually the easiest item in the set to rate. What decides whether a 600 t lift actually happens is everything the sling connects to — the master link, the hook, the beam above it, the bed it is proof loaded on and the coil it ships as. So this page is about the interface: the figures to check around the sling, and the two points where a 600 t enquiry normally stalls.

Where 600 Tonnes Sits in the Range
The step from 500 tonne polyester round slings to this size buys 210,000 kg of four-leg set capacity — 1,260,000 kg against 1,050,000 kg at 0–45° — plus a heavier body, a larger coil and a longer proof cycle. It is worth taking when the lift plan needs that rung, and not for margin: the handling cost of a 600 t body is real, and it cannot be spent on a 550 t lift.
| Arrangement | Mode factor | Working load limit |
|---|---|---|
| Vertical | 1.0 | 600,000 kg (600 t) |
| Choked | 0.8 | 480,000 kg (480 t) |
| Basket, 0–7° | 2.0 | 1,200,000 kg (1,200 t) |
| Basket, 7–45° | 1.4 | 840,000 kg (840 t) |
| Basket, 45–60° | 1.0 | 600,000 kg (600 t) |
| Legs | 0–45° to vertical | 45–60° to vertical |
|---|---|---|
| 2 legs | 840,000 kg (×1.4) | 600,000 kg (×1.0) |
| 3 alebo 4 legs | 1,260,000 kg (×2.1) | 900,000 kg (×1.5) |
The Interface: Five Figures to Check Around the Sling
On a 600 t lift the sling tends to be the strongest item in the set. These are the five figures that decide whether the lift is actually rated for 600 t, and they are the first things we ask for.
| Item | Figure it must carry | Why it decides the lift |
|---|---|---|
| Master link / master shackle | The whole set capacity — 1,260,000 kg for four legs at 0–45° | The assembly is rated by its top item, not by the slings below it. |
| Crane hook | The set capacity, not the per-leg figure | A 600 t sling in a 400 t hook is a 400 t lift, whatever the label says. |
| Spreader beam | Total load plus rigging, at the working span | Standard beams run to 180 t; above that the beam is a design against the load case. |
| Proof bed | 1,200,000 kg, applied per sling | The test happens before marking, and the figure is recorded against the serial. |
| Coil and crate | Site crane or forklift, and the container | At this size the coil is the handling unit — it is planned with the lift, not after it. |
What Changes Physically at 600 Tonnes
- The body arrives as a coil. It is lifted with a crane or forklift, stored on a pallet off the floor and moved twice to be used once. Plan that time with the lift, not after it.
- Headroom has to absorb the stretch. Polyester extends roughly 2–3% at WLL — 600–900 mm on a 30 m body — and on a long leg that extension also lets the leg angle open as the load comes on.
- The label is the only capacity mark. There is no colour code at 600 t. A worn or unreadable label retires the sling as surely as a cut sleeve does.
Matched Sets: Length, Batch, Serial
A four-leg 600 t lift is a set, not four slings, and in a multi-leg lift the shortest leg takes the most load. Three things make four bodies into a set:
- Equal length, measured the same way. Lay-flat or full circumference, one convention for every sling in the set, confirmed on the drawing.
- One yarn lot where the size allows it, so the extension under load is comparable across the set rather than merely nominal.
- A set number on every label, so the four are inspected, proof loaded and retired together.

Označovanie, Proof and Documents
Nothing at 600 t is bought off a shelf, so the paperwork is part of the product. Every sling leaves with an approval drawing, a sewn label carrying the WLL in kg and the effective length, and a proof load record against its serial number. Where a standard marking is required for your market, say so before the order and we confirm exactly what the label and the certificate will carry.
In Service
- Read the whole loop, not the section that has been working. The core is hidden; the sleeve is what you judge the sling by.
- Fit wear pads where it chokes. The sleeve is the wear layer, and at this size the choke point is where it goes first.
- Rotate between lifts. The loop can be turned so a fresh section takes the bearing — the cheapest life extension available.
- Never drag a loaded body. Store it coiled, off the floor, dry and out of sustained sunlight.
Applications
- Modules, skids and pressure vessel sections lifted on four legs from a single hook
- Steel plate and coil packs where a soft, non-marking bearing is required
- Long fabrications and tower sections picked from a beam at a controlled leg angle
- Basket lifts under large rolls, shafts and machined bodies where the loop wraps the curve
- Port, shipyard and heavy fabrication work where water and grit rule out a fibre that rots
- Any lift where the load must not be marked, dented or squeezed by the rigging

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the proof load of a 600 t round sling?
1,200,000 kg — twice the vertical working load limit — applied to each sling individually and recorded against its serial number before marking.
How much can four WLL 600T slings lift?
1,260,000 kg at 0–45° to vertical (factor 2.1), alebo 900,000 kg at 45–60° (factor 1.5). A two-leg set is 840,000 kg at 0–45° and 600,000 kg at 45–60°. The master link has to be rated for the set, not for one leg.
Is 600 tonnes the largest round sling size?
It is the largest single endless body in the series. Above it the answer is normally a different arrangement — two bodies in basket per leg, or a spreader beam with shorter legs — rather than a bigger single sling.
How is the length specified?
As lay-flat length or full loop circumference, agreed on the approval drawing before production. The two conventions differ by a factor of two, so state which one your figure refers to. A body cannot be shortened later.
Can it be supplied with eyes, or in another fibre?
Yes. The same core and sleeve are built as an eye and eye round sling where a defined eye-to-eye length is more useful than a loop, and the core can be UHMWPE (Dyneema) where the weight of the sling itself matters.
