1 Ton Webbing Sling | Polyester Lifting Sling 1000kg EN1492-1
One tonne is the size most often overloaded, because it is the size small enough to keep in a toolbox. This is a 1,000 kg violet polyester sling to EN 1492-1 — 25 mm body, 7:1 factor, and a rating that changes the moment you choke it or add a second leg.
1,000 kg Is a Vertical Number
The label says 1,000 kg because a straight vertical lift with both eyes seated on the hook is how the rating is defined. Change the hitch and the number changes with it — the sling does not get weaker, the geometry does.
Worked example
A 700 kg gearbox on two legs at 60° from vertical: the pair is rated 1,000 kg, so it passes — with 300 kg of margin, not 1,300. The same gearbox in a single choke is a different job: 700 kg against an 800 kg rating is 88 % used, and a worn sling at that margin is a rejection waiting to happen.
What 25 mm Buys You
A 1 t body is 25 mm wide and a 2 m sling weighs well under a kilogram, so it coils into a fist and lives in the toolbox rather than the sling rack. That is the point of this size: rigging a pump, a motor, a valve or a formwork panel where a 5 t sling is simply too much material to thread through the eye.
Violet is the EN 1492-1 colour for 1 t — the bottom of the scale, before 2 t green. On a mixed rack the colour is the fastest sanity check, but only the label carries the rating: WLL, length, material, CE and the batch serial.
Markings, Wear and the Red Core
- Label: WLL 1 t, EWL, 100 % polyester, CE, manufacturer and a serial that traces to the test batch.
- Core warning yarn: red threads show through a cut in the cover — that is a remove-from-service signal, not a repair job.
- Polyester is good from −40 °C to +100 °C, resists oils and rot, and dies quietly on a sharp edge. Sleeves are cheap; cut webbing is not.
- Retire on: cuts, glazing from abrasion, chemical softening, label missing, or elongation that no longer matches a sister sling.
Where a 1 Tonne Sling Earns Its Place
- Pumps, motors, gearboxes and valves during service work
- Machine tools and small fabricated assemblies
- Formwork panels and access covers on site
- Warehouse and workshop lifts where a hook is already overhead
- Second sling in a mixed pair, where one leg only carries part of the load

Questions Buyers Actually Ask
Is 1 ton the same as 1,000 kg WLL?
Yes — 1 t = 1,000 kg working load limit in a straight vertical lift. Minimum breaking load is 7,000 kg at the 7:1 factor, so there is no need to derate further for “safety margin” if the hitch is vertical.
How wide is a 1 tonne webbing sling?
25 mm in a single-ply build. Duplex versions use two plies and a slightly wider finished body for the same rating. Tell us the hook or shackle you are using and we match the eye opening to it.
Can two 1 t slings lift 2 tonnes?
Not in practice. Two legs at 45–60° from vertical rate the pair at 1,000 kg total, not 2,000 — the wider the angle, the less each leg contributes. At 0–45° the pair gives 1,400 kg. Above 60° use a spreader beam.
What does the violet colour mean?
EN 1492-1 assigns violet to 1 t, green to 2 t, yellow to 3 t, grey to 4 t, red to 5 t, blue to 8 t and orange to 10 t. Colour is a quick check on a rack, never a substitute for reading the label.
1 t webbing sling or 1 t round sling?
Webbing for flat contact and low surface pressure on machined parts; round slings for choking irregular shapes where the cover takes the abrasion. See the round sling range if the load has edges.
