Offset Eye Cable Pulling Grips
Offset eye cable pulling grips are wire mesh grips whose eye sits to one side of the mesh axis instead of on top of it. That single geometry change solves two site problems: the cable hangs plumb under the grip, and the pulling or support line clears the cable instead of chafing across it. The double-layer galvanised mesh closes on the cable as tension rises and grips by friction alone – no clamps, no bolts, no crushed jacket. Standard models cover cable from 9 mm ke 160 mm, in galvanised, 304/316 stainless and PVC-coated mesh.

Why Use an Offset Eye Instead of an In-Line Eye?
On a single or double eye grip the eye stands directly above the mesh, in line with the cable. An offset eye is bent to one side, which changes how the load and the line behave:
- The cable hangs plumb. Supported from an offset eye, the cable axis stays vertical while the anchor or line sits beside it – the grip does not kink the cable at the head.
- The line clears the cable. In a manhole, a riser or against a wall, an offset eye keeps the winch line or sling away from the jacket instead of dragging across it.
- No bend radius loss at the head. An in-line eye forces the cable to bend where it leaves the mesh; the offset head lets the cable run straight through the grip.
- Support duty after the pull. Closed mesh offset eye grips are used as permanent supports on vertical cable runs, risers and shafts, not only as pulling tools.
- Flexible or fixed head. Offset flexible eye versions follow a line that changes angle; rigid swaged offset eyes hold a fixed orientation for repeatable support spacing.

Single Eye, Double Eye or Offset Eye?
All three use the same mesh principle; the head decides the job. If the line direction is the only unknown, an in-line eye is enough – see our cable pulling socks grip range and the double eye cable pulling grips for two-line and pass-through pulls.
| Head type | Line layout | Typical duty |
|---|---|---|
| Single eye | One eye, in line with the mesh axis | Straight duct and trench pulls, one pull line |
| Double eye | Two eyes, in line, shared load | Balanced two-line pulls, bridle rigs, pass-through pulls |
| Offset eye | One eye, set to one side of the axis | Vertical support runs, risers, aci, manholes, pulls against a wall |
| Offset flexible eye | Offset eye on a flexible neck | Pulls where the line angle changes, curved tray and riser work |

Model Selection Chart
Choose the model by the measured cable outside diameter first, then confirm the mesh length against the pulling load. Capacities are the standard ratings for this mesh body; confirm the final rating for your cable surface and pull length with our engineers before the first lift.

Capacity applies to a straight, axial pull on a clean cable at 20 °C. Loading the offset eye against its offset direction, side loading at the duct mouth, wet or oily jackets and short mesh engagement all reduce the usable pull. Order one size above the measured diameter when the cable is within 1 mm of a range limit.
How to Choose the Right Model
- Measure the outside diameter at the point the mesh will grip, not the nominal cable size; for a bundle use the overall diameter.
- Decide the head from the site. Vertical support, riser or a line that must clear the cable: offset eye. Straight one-line pull: single eye. Two lines or pass-through: double eye.
- State the offset direction and distance – which side the eye must sit on, and how far, so the line meets the anchor without a side load.
- Size the mesh length to the load, using at least 4-5 times the cable diameter of engagement; longer for heavy pulls and soft jackets.
- Match the material: galvanised for general work, 304/316 for marine, tunnel and humid duty, PVC or rubber coating where the jacket must not be marked.
- Give the pulling load – the mesh wire diameter sets the breaking strength, and we confirm the model against it.
Materials and Options
- Galvanised steel mesh – standard, zinc coated high-tensile wire for pulling and support duty.
- AISI 304 / 316 keluli tahan karat – salt spray, chemical exposure, offshore and tunnel work; 316 where chlorides are present.
- PVC or rubber coated mesh – protects painted pipe, stainless tube, fibre optic jackets and finished surfaces.
- Eye options – swaged offset eye (fixed orientation, low profile), offset flexible eye (follows the line angle), thimble eye for abrasion resistance at the hook.
- Menanda – model, cable range and capacity on a tag; your logo braided into the mesh or printed on the eye on request.
Aplikasi Biasa
- Supporting vertical cable runs, risers and shaft cable where the cable must hang plumb
- Pulling in manholes, handholes and switchgear cabinets where the line must clear the cable
- Duct and tray pulls where the winch line runs against a wall or beside the cable
- Fibre optic and control cable installation where the jacket must not be crushed
- Pulling cable bundles, wire rope, rods and conduit with a winch or cable puller
- Marin, tunnel, utility and substation work, including stainless and coated versions

Installation and Safe Use
- Inspect mesh, eye and ferrule before every pull; discard any grip with broken wires, a deformed or bent-open eye, or a slipped ferrule.
- Expand the mesh fully and slide it on until the cable end reaches the head – never pull with the cable only half inserted.
- Load the offset eye in its designed direction. Pulling against the offset puts the head in bending and reduces capacity.
- Keep the pull axial; side loading at a duct mouth is the most common cause of mesh damage. Use a snatch block or roller where the line changes direction.
- Never exceed the rated pulling capacity, and do not use a pulling grip for overhead lifting unless the model is rated and marked for lifting duty.
- For permanent support duty, check the anchor spacing and re-inspect the mesh after the first load cycle; store grips dry and clean.
Quality Control
Lift Sling Rigging Co., Ltd has manufactured wire rope and mesh rigging in Taizhou, Jiangsu since 1985. Mesh is braided from wire we select, the offset eye is braided or swaged to a controlled length and angle, and samples are proof-loaded before despatch in our own laboratory. Pre-shipment inspection reports and third-party testing can be arranged on request.

What is an offset eye cable pulling grip used for?
It grips a cable so it can be pulled or supported while the eye sits to one side of the cable axis. That keeps the cable hanging plumb on vertical runs and keeps the line clear of the jacket in manholes, risers and pulls against a wall.
Offset eye or in-line eye – which do I need?
Use an in-line eye for a straight pull where the line runs away from the cable. Choose an offset eye when the cable must hang vertically, when the anchor sits beside the cable, or when an in-line eye would force a bend at the head.
How do I choose the size?
Measure the true outside diameter of the cable and pick the model whose range covers it – the chart runs from 9 mm ke 160 mm. Then set the mesh length from the pulling load, with at least 4-5 times the cable diameter of engagement for heavy pulls.
Can the offset direction be specified?
ya. Tell us which side the eye must sit on and, where it matters, the offset distance from the cable axis. Left and right offset eyes, offset flexible eyes and thimble eyes are all made to order.
What is the safety factor?
Standard grips are rated at 5:1 on the breaking strength. Send the required pulling load and we specify the wire diameter and mesh length to suit; despatch dates are confirmed on the quotation.
