5Tonne Webbing Sling – Lengths from 2mtr to 12mtr EWL Available
Five tonnes is the size that covers a whole rack. Ours is a 125 mm red duplex polyester body — 5,000 kg WLL at 7:1 — stitched anywhere from 2 m to 12 m EWL. It is the widest length span in the range, and at full length it is still a one-man carry.
One size, both ends of the rack
Most ranges make you buy a short sling for chokers and a long one for reach. At 5 t you can skip that. The body is light enough that a 12 m sling still goes over a shoulder, so a single line item covers a 2 m bench choker and a 12 m two-point lift over a casing.
Stock lengths are 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 an 12 m. Anything between is stitched to order at the same price per metre — there is no reason to accept 6 m when the drawing says 5.5 m.
Length is quoted as EWL, bearing point to bearing point, with the eyes outside it, held to the EN 1492-1 tolerance. If you want the full explanation of how that is measured, it is on our 10 tonne webbing sling page and applies unchanged here.
Why 125 mm, and why red
125 mm is the practical width for this rating. It seats in ordinary 5 t hooks and shackle bows without needing a wide-body hook, and it still spreads load over a painted or machined surface instead of marking it. Go wider and the sling starts fighting the hardware it has to sit in.
Duplex means two plies stitched as one body: flatter over an edge, stiffer through the eye, and twice the stitch rows where the wear happens. Red is the EN 1492-1 colour for 5 t — the 8 t sling is blue and the 10 t is orange, which is why a mixed rack stays readable at a glance.

What the fitter is told to check
Read the label before the colour: WLL, length, material, CE mark and the batch serial, then look at the cover. The red warning yarn sits under it — see red through a cut or a worn patch and the sling is out of service, whatever the label says. Polyester is rated −40 °C to +100 °C, shrugs off oil and rot, and melts before it burns, so it warns before it goes.
Every batch is proof loaded and ships with a test certificate, a CE declaration and the EN 1492-1 report. Serial numbers trace to the pull, not just to the month.
Where 5 tonne does most of the work
- Single steel plates and small section bundles out of a rack, on a 2–3 m choker.
- Machine shop and maintenance lifts, where a 125 mm body fits the hooks already on the crane.
- Container and trailer work — 8–12 m lengths reach the far corner without a second sling.
- Precast and formwork handling, duplex body over the edge.
- Rental fleets that want one SKU covering 2 m to 12 m.

Questions we get on the 5 tonne size
- How much is 5 tonne in kg?
- 5,000 kg working load limit. At 7:1 the minimum breaking load is 35,000 kg, so the rating is the load you may lift, not the point of failure.
- How wide is a 5 tonne webbing sling?
- 125 mm in the duplex build. If your hooks or shackle bows are narrow, say so before ordering — body width and hardware have to agree, and that is worth checking on the drawing rather than at the lift.
- Is a 12 m sling too heavy to handle?
- At 5 t, no. This is the size where full length still goes over one shoulder; the same length at 10 t is a two-man carry. Above 12 m we would normally suggest a pair on a lifting spreader beam instead.
- Why is a 5 tonne sling red?
- EN 1492-1 assigns red to 5 t, blue to 8 t and orange to 10 t. Colour is a quick check, never the rating — the label carries the WLL.
- Can a 2 m sling be choked?
- Yes, an 2 m is the length most often bought for it. A choke hitch drops the rating to 4,000 kg, so size the hitch before the length.
- Webbing sling or round sling at 5 t?
- Flat webbing when you want width, low contact pressure and a surface you can inspect. A ronn sling when the load shape is awkward to choke or the sling has to coil into a toolbox.
