100 Tonne Round Sling

A 100 tonne round sling is the top of the round sling range: a parallel core of high-tenacity polyester inside a woven sleeve, rated 100 t in a vertical lift û 700 t at the minimum breaking load, on a 7:1 safety factor to EN 1492-2.

At this capacity the sling stops being something one person carries to the hook. The sleeve is bulky, the minimum length is longer, and the lift has to be planned around the sling as much as around the load. We build 100 t round slings to order — eye-and-eye or endless — and confirm the length, the hook interface and the documentation before production.

  • 100 t working load limit vertical; 700 t minimum breaking load
  • 80 t choked, 140 t or 200 t in a basket depending on angle
  • High-tenacity polyester core; double-wall sleeve recommended at this capacity
  • Eye-and-eye or endless; length produced to order
  • Load tested, with test figures and a certificate on request

100 Tonne Round Sling Rating and Configuration

The figure on the label is the vertical rating. Every other arrangement is a mode factor applied to it — and at 100 t the difference between one arrangement and another is measured in tens of tonnes, so it is worth reading the row you are actually rigging.

Configuration Mode factor Rated capacity
Vertical 1.0 100 t
Choked 0.8 80 t
Basket, 0–7° 2.0 200 t
Basket, 7–45° 1.4 140 t
Basket, 45–60° 1.0 100 t
Ew 700 t minimum breaking load is a property of the sling itself. The mode factors change what you are allowed to lift, not what the sling can take. In a multi-leg assembly the share taken by each leg depends on the included angle and on the load being symmetrical, so confirm the assembly before the lift.

What Changes When a Round Sling Reaches 100 Tonnes

Sleeve bulk and minimum length

A 100 t core needs a large sleeve, and a large sleeve cannot be gathered into a short eye-to-eye distance. Tell us the capacity and the length together. If the length you want falls below the minimum for the capacity, we will say so before quoting rather than after.

Mass and handling

The sling is heavy and it does not coil small. Plan two people or a forklift for handling, keep it off the ground and never drag it — dragging a loaded sling is the fastest way to scrap it.

Hook, shackle and headroom

The eye or the loop has to sit in a hook bowl or a shackle that is rated for the load and wide enough for the sleeve. A hook that is too small point-loads the termination, and a shackle under-rated for 100 t becomes the weak link in an otherwise 700 t sling. Allow enough headroom that the legs do not open into a wide angle and throw away the basket advantage.

Transport and storage

Coiled in a bag, palletised at long lengths, kept out of sunlight and away from heat. A 100 t sling is an asset rather than a consumable — store it where it can be inspected.

Eye-and-Eye or Endless at 100 Tonnes

Both are built on the same core and the same sleeve at this capacity. The choice is about how the sling meets the load.

100 t eye and eye round sling 100 t endless round sling
Termination Two stitched eyes Continuous loop, no ends
Length Measured between the eyes Ordered by circumference; working length is about half
Rigging Hooks and shackles like a webbing sling Vertical, choke, basket, double wrap
Wear Fixed bearing points Rotate the loop to spread wear
Best for Repeat lifts, fixed geometry, defined pick-up points Awkward shapes, several arrangements, longest service life

Construction detail for each is on the eye and eye round sling û endless round sling pages; this page is about the 100 t class itself. If the load is hot, the aramid round sling û high temperature round sling carry the same rating in a fibre that tolerates heat, and the protected eye to eye version adds thimbles and replaceable wear sleeves where the eyes meet steel every lift.

Specifying a 100 Tonne Round Sling

A 100 tonne lifting sling is specified by capacity, length and arrangement, and the five details below decide all three. Send them with the enquiry and the quotation becomes a specification rather than a price.

  1. The load — mass, cins, and where it can be picked up.
  2. The pick-up points — the distance between them, or the working height you need.
  3. The arrangement — vertical, choked, basket or multi-leg, and the angle.
  4. The environment — abrasive, sharp, hot, wet, marine or clean.
  5. The paperwork — the marking, test certificate or third-party inspection your market requires.

If you only know the load and the height, send those two. We will size the rest and confirm it against the lift you intend to rig.

Marking, Inspection and Retirement

Above 12 t the EN 1492-2 colour code no longer identifies the capacity, so the sewn label is the only reliable statement of what the sling is rated for. Read the label, not the colour.

Sewn label and capacity marking on a heavy-duty round sling
The sewn label carries the working load limit, the length and the batch — at 100 t it is the governing marking.
  • Check the label every use: sînorê barê xebatê, dirêjî, batch — legible and still attached.
  • Run the whole sleeve through your hands: cuts, abrasion, glazing, hardening.
  • Any place where the core shows or bulges through the sleeve retires the sling immediately.
  • On an eye-and-eye sling, inspect the stitch rows and the gather at each eye first.
  • Never exceed the rating for the arrangement, and never use a damaged sling as a temporary one.
  • Record the lifts and the damage; retire on condition, not on age alone.

Where 100 Tonne Round Slings Are Used

  • Steel coils, slabs and plate packs, where a soft bearing protects the surface
  • Heavy plant, dies, castings and machined components
  • Precast concrete sections and structural steel
  • Shipyard blocks, marine modules and offshore fabrications
  • Wind turbine components and tower sections
  • Basket lifts under rolls, shafts and pipe spools

Where a two-leg assembly would otherwise open into a wide angle, a tîrêjê hilgirtinê an spreader beam keeps the sling vertical and the full rating available. For sheared edges and hot work, compare webbing slings û wire rope slings before assuming a round sling is the right tool.

Testing and Documentation

Every sling is checked on its sleeve, its terminations, its length and its label before packing, and slings are load tested to verify the rating. On request the consignment can travel with the fibre certificate, the batch test figures and a test certificate. If your project calls for a witnessed test or a third-party inspection, tell us before the order and we will confirm exactly what can be provided for the construction you need. Our certification page lists the management systems behind the process.

How much can a 100 tonne round sling lift?

100 t in a vertical lift, which is the figure printed on the label. Choked, it is rated 80 t. In a basket it is 200 t at 0–7°, 140 t at 7–45° and 100 t at 45–60°. The capacity you actually have depends on the arrangement, so confirm it before the lift.

What is the breaking strength of a 100 tonne round sling?

700 t minimum breaking load, from a 7:1 safety factor on the 100 t working load limit. Where a market requires 6:1 an 8:1, the sling is produced to that factor and the label is marked accordingly.

Can a 100 tonne round sling be made to a custom length?

Erê. Eye-and-eye slings are made to the distance between the eyes; endless slings are made to a circumference. A minimum length applies and it rises with the capacity, because a 100 t sleeve cannot be gathered into a short span. Send the pick-up distance or the working height and we will confirm what is possible.

Why is a 100 tonne sling not colour coded?

The EN 1492-2 colour code runs from 1 t to 12 t. Above 12 t the colour no longer identifies the capacity, so the working load limit on the sewn label is what governs. Never read the capacity of a heavy sling from its colour.

How is a sling this size handled on site?

With two people or mechanical assistance. It is bulky, heavy and does not coil small, so plan the handling before the lift, keep it off the ground and never drag it. Store it coiled, out of sunlight and away from heat, where it can be inspected.

Do you supply test certificates with the order?

Erê. The fibre certificate, the batch test figures and a test certificate can travel with the consignment on request. Tell us the standard marking or third-party inspection your market needs before the order, so the documentation is agreed with the specification.
