Thirty tonnes is the point where a round sling stops being rigging and becomes part of the lift plan: it is ordered with a length convention, a proof-load record and a crane study behind it, and almost never as a single leg. These endless slings are rated 30,000 kg vertical — a 30 tonne round sling for precast segments, coils, machine beds and moulds that have to come out of the lift unmarked.
Core in high-tenacity polyester, orange woven sleeve, single or double. Every sling carries its own serial number and is proof loaded before dispatch.
A pair of 30 t slings is not a 60 t set
The figure on the sleeve is one leg, hanging vertically. Almost nobody lifts thirty tonnes on one leg, so the number that decides the lift is the set figure — and at this capacity the arithmetic is where lifts are lost. Two 30 t slings at 45° apart carry 42 t. Four carry 63 t, because a four-leg set is calculated on three loaded legs.
| Configuration | EN 1492-2 factor | What the set carries |
|---|---|---|
| One sling, vertical | × 1.0 | 30 t |
| One sling, choked | × 0.8 | 24 t |
| One sling, basket at 0–7° | × 2.0 | 60 t |
| One sling, basket at 7–45° | × 1.4 | 42 t |
| One sling, basket at 45–60° | × 1.0 | 30 t |
| Two slings, 0–45° from vertical | × 1.4 | 42 t |
| Two slings, 45–60° from vertical | × 1.0 | 30 t |
| Four slings, 0–45° from vertical | × 2.1 | 63 t |
| Four slings, 45–60° from vertical | × 1.5 | 45 t |
Mode factors applied to a 30 t single-leg rating. The difference between 42 t and 63 t at the same tonnage is a rigging decision, not a manufacturing one — which is why we ask for the arrangement before the length is fixed.
If the load is heavy enough to need 30 t slings in the first place, it is usually heavy enough to need the next size up once the legs open. A 55 t load on two legs is a 50 t sling job at 0–45°, and a 60 t sling job beyond it. The table is the cheapest part of the order.
Where a 30 tonne round sling earns its place
- Precast beams and bridge segments. A 30 t segment picked at each end in a basket: the sleeve protects the formed face and the chamfer, and the round body wraps the lifting loop instead of cutting into it.
- Steel coils at 25–30 t. Coils sit in a basket, where the doubled body gives 60 t of basket capacity and the sling follows the curve of the coil rather than bearing on a single line.
- Transformers, generators and machine beds. Trunnions and lifting holes are small and the surfaces are painted or machined — nothing metal touches the load, and nothing has to be matched to a hook.
- Moulds and dies. Lifting holes are drilled, not designed for a fitting, so a soft loop threaded through the hole is the entire method.
- Skids, frames and offshore baskets. Six to twelve metre bodies, choked at each corner; the sleeve takes the corner abrasion so the core does not.
- Contractor and rental fleets. 30 t covers the gap between a 20 t set and a 50 t lift, which is why it is the size most often held in stock.

An 8 m body with the working load limit printed on the sleeve. Above 10 t the colour no longer identifies the sling, so the print and the label are what the person making the lift reads.
Construction at this capacity
The core carries it
The load path is a parallel bundle of high-tenacity polyester filament, waxed and laid without twist. Capacity comes from filament count, not from sleeve width — which is why a 30 t round sling stays slim enough to thread through a lifting eye that a 30 t shackle would never pass.
The sleeve decides its life
A woven polyester sleeve keeps grit, daylight and abrasion off the bundle and carries the marking. A double sleeve round sling adds one more wear layer between the load and the core at the same 30 t rating — worth it in precast yards, rebar and rental fleets, pointless on a clean indoor lift.
A 30 t sling is heavy. Coil it on a stillage, move it with the forklift, and never drag it across the yard: most of the wear these slings see happens before they are ever rigged.

Sling body diameter and unit mass follow the length and sleeve option, and are shown on the drawing issued with the quotation.
Choosing the length — the part that goes wrong
An endless sling has no ends, so its length can be quoted two ways, and the two are a factor of two apart:
| Quoted as | You receive | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Effective working length | Half the circumference — hook down to load and back | Vertical and choked lifts, where the hanging height is known |
| Circumference | The full loop length | Basket lifts, where the girth of the load drives the length |
A 4 m working length is an 8 m loop. On the slings shown here the printed figure is the effective length. For a basket, take the girth of the load, add the headroom to the hook, and let us do the rest — the body takes the long way round, not the short one, and a sling that only just reaches forces the legs wide, which is the same as buying a smaller sling.
30 t round sling against wire rope and chain
| Polyester round sling | Wire rope grommet | Four-leg chain set | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weight for the rating | Lightest of the three; carried to the machine by hand | Heavier, and stiff to handle | Heaviest, and awkward in a confined lift |
| Contact with the load | Soft and conforming; will not mark paint or machined faces | Steel on steel; marks finished surfaces | Hard contact; dents and edge marks |
| Sharp edges | A limit — needs a protector | Tolerates edges better | Tolerates edges |
| Heat | To +100 °C; hotter loads need an aramid or high temperature round sling | Higher | Highest |
| Inspection | Sleeve, then label; wear is visible from outside | Internal wire breaks are hard to see in a grommet | Link by link |
| Where it wins | Precast, coils, machine beds, moulds, tight access | Rough, abrasive and hot work | Foundry and repeated heavy abuse |
For a 30 t lift the soft sling is usually chosen for what it does not do to the load, not for what it can carry — all three carry the figure.
Häufig gefragt
How much can a WLL 30T polyester round sling lift in a basket or a choke?
The sleeve gives the vertical figure of 30 t. Choked it is 24 t. In a basket it is 60 t at 0–7°, 42 t at 7–45° and 30 t at 45–60°. The arrangement is part of the rating, not a detail of how it is rigged.
Can I lift 60 tonnes with two 30 tonne round slings?
Not safely. Two legs at 0–45° from vertical carry 42 t, Und 30 t at 45–60°. For a 60 t load on two legs, step to 50 t slings at 0–45° and 60 t slings beyond 45°, or go to the next size in the 40 tonne round sling and above.
What length do I order — 4 m or 8 m?
Say which convention you mean. A 4 m effective length is an 8 m loop. For a vertical or choked lift, the effective length is the distance from hook to load. For a basket, add the girth of the load to the headroom and quote that.
Is it available in UHMWPE or aramid?
Ja. The same 30 t body is built with a UHMWPE round sling core where the sling’s own weight matters, and with an aramid round sling core or a heat-resistant sleeve for hot loads.
What documentation comes with the sling?
A sewn label carrying the working load limit, length and serial; a proof-load record matched to that serial; a fibre certificate and batch figures on request. Tell us before the order if your market needs a specific standard marking on the label.
