WLL 500T Polyester Round Slings
A WLL 500T polyester round sling is rated 500,000 kg on a single vertical leg — the largest size in the endless range — with a minimum breaking load of 3,500,000 kg at 7:1 and a proof load of 1,000,000 kg applied before dispatch.
At the top of a range the useful information is not the headline figure, it is where this size sits against the one below it. So this page carries the full ladder, the step between 450 and 500 tonnes, and the one lift geometry that actually separates them.

The Whole Ladder, Not Just the Top Rung
The sizes run 150, 200, 250, 300, 400, 450 and 500 t. The column to compare against your lift is the four-leg set capacity at 0–45°, not the vertical rating — that is the number a lift plan actually consumes.
| WLL (vertical) | Minimum breaking load | Proof load | 4-leg set, 0–45° | Basket, 0–7° |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 150 t | 1,050,000 kg | 300,000 kg | 315,000 kg | 300,000 kg |
| 200 t | 1,400,000 kg | 400,000 kg | 420,000 kg | 400,000 kg |
| 250 t | 1,750,000 kg | 500,000 kg | 525,000 kg | 500,000 kg |
| 300 t | 2,100,000 kg | 600,000 kg | 630,000 kg | 600,000 kg |
| 400 t | 2,800,000 kg | 800,000 kg | 840,000 kg | 800,000 kg |
| 450 t | 3,150,000 kg | 900,000 kg | 945,000 kg | 900,000 kg |
| 500 t | 3,500,000 kg | 1,000,000 kg | 1,050,000 kg | 1,000,000 kg |
Two ratios never change across the ladder: minimum breaking load is seven times the working load limit, and the four-leg set capacity is 2.1 times it at 0–45°. What changes is the gap between rungs — 100 t at the bottom, 50–100 t at the top, where each step buys less capacity for more steel, more sleeve and more coil.
The Step from 450 to 500 Tonnes
Between the 450 tonne sling and this one the difference is 105,000 kg of four-leg set capacity — 945 t against 1,050 t. That is real, but it is also the narrowest step in the range, and it is paid for in body size, coil diameter, crane time and freight.
The lift that separates them is a 1,000 t module on four legs at 30°. Divide by 2.1 and each leg carries about 476 t: 95% of a 500 t rating, and just over the 450 t one. A 400 tonne sling is nowhere near it. If your lift is 950 t, দ 450 t sling is the cheaper correct answer; if it is 1,000 t on four legs, this is the size.
| Top three sizes | 4-leg set, 0–45° | Lift class it covers |
|---|---|---|
| 400 t | 840 t | Up to an 840 t four-leg lift |
| 450 t | 945 t | A 950 t module sits right on the line |
| 500 t | 1,050 t | A 1,000 t module at 30° with margin to spare |
Buying the top size “for margin” is the most common expensive mistake at this end of the range: the sling is heavier than it needs to be, the coil is larger than the site expects, and none of it lifts a tonne more than the lift plan asked for.

In Service at the Top of the Range
The label is the capacity. Above the colour-coded sizes nothing on the sleeve tells a rigger what he is holding except the sewn marking. A worn or unreadable label retires the sling as surely as a cut sleeve does, because the capacity can no longer be proven at the hook.
The plan travels with the sling. Keep the approval drawing, the proof record and the lift plan together, and keep them with the coil. On a sling this size the documentation is part of the asset — a 500 t body without its record is a very expensive unknown.
Handling is a machine job. Store it coiled on a pallet, off the floor, dry and out of sustained sunlight, and never drag it to reposition it. The sleeve is the abrasion layer; dragging spends it before the lift does.
Options and OEM
Polyester core as standard; aramid for hot loads and a UHMWPE (Dyneema) core where the weight of the sling itself matters. The eye-and-eye form is available on the same core and sleeve where a defined eye-to-eye length is more useful than an endless loop, and an endless round sling in a smaller size covers most four-leg lifts below 300 t at a fraction of the handling cost. Sleeve colour, wear pads, length convention, label layout and packing are specified per order.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the proof load?
1,000,000 kg, twice the vertical working load limit, applied to each sling and recorded against its serial number.
How much can four 500 t slings lift?
1,050,000 kg at 0–45° to vertical (factor 2.1), or 750,000 kg at 45–60° (factor 1.5).
Is 500 tonnes the largest size?
It is the largest in this range. Above it the answer is usually a different arrangement — two slings in basket, a spreader beam with shorter legs — rather than a bigger single body.
What separates 450 t and 500 t?
105,000 kg of four-leg set capacity, plus a larger body and coil. Worth it only when the lift needs the extra rung.
How is the length specified?
As lay-flat length or full circumference, agreed before production. The conventions differ by a factor of two.
